The Great Cultural Disconnect

The Great Cultural Disconnect by jelliott
For the depth of the intent behind this, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it.

I have become intrigued by the cultural disconnect of american youth... and how they're all looking to other countries to fill their "cultural void".

I would have to agree since I tend to see the same types of things myself but I think the approach is a two way street. Yes on the one hand America is lacking it's own distinct culture but on the other hand it is not. America has always been a total mixture of various cultures and I think that is in-in of itself a defining feature of what is America.

The US also has a number of very specific local cultures that can be experienced only at a location. Specifically certain places in major cities like Seattle, San Francisco, South Philly, Brooklyn, etc.

However, in the absence of a substantial street culture in America's suburbs, which previously was filled with religion, has become a void being quickly filled by fads in pop culture (Anime, MTV, etc).

My take on it, at least. Emotion: wink.gif
